My adventure to Paris was not for happy reasons. We said goodbye to a good friend who recently passed. He had an amazing service that was from the heart of his family.
My riding companions and myself rode our Can Am Spyders to the funeral. Big Eddie was part of the US SPyder Ryders - North Texas. We represented our group and paid our personal respects to the family. We remembered our friend, Big Eddie and his persistent smile.
Paris Texas is home to the Eiffel tower. I have seen that on previous trips. It is a small scale eiffel tower with a cowboy hat at the top. Seeing the Texas Eiffel Tower is always a fun stop. The big red cowboy hat perched atop the tower does make this proud Texan give a smile.
On this trip, we had a few different sites to see. Paris ths the county seat of Lamar County. It does have a beautiful downtown square. The historic courthouse sits just off the square. It has a beautiful pink texas limestone and granite exterior. It has some shells, greek keys and wave motifs. I will need to do more research on the reason why these motifs are used. Lamar county does not have an ocean front view.
We looked up a restaurant to eat lunch. A group member was having a powerful craving for onion rings. We trusted Yelp to lead us to wonderful rings of fried onions. Jaxx on the Square did not disappoint. We all had burgers and sandwiches. We shared the bounty of onion rings and fries.
We walked the square and looked at the historic architecture of the different ages of buildings added. Paris has some great places to see in the downtown area. The center of the square is a beautiful fountain and clock with lush green grass. There are some tables with umbrellas. We were too early to get homemade ice cream. But, we did get some great coffee at Downtown Coffee.
We were on a bit of a time schedule. I would like to go back to take a few more photos. The Historic Courthouse, the First Methodist Church and a few other buildings are on my list to go back to take a few more detailed photos.
On the way home, we stopped at Evergreen Cemetery to see an large grave marker that is on Atlas Obscura. This is known as Jesus in Cowboy boots. I did drive by it on the first look because I thought it was a female hugging a cross. On the drive back, I saw the cowboy boots. Love Never Dies was engraved with flowers on the headstone. Again, this is something that I need to know more about the person who is buried there and the person who designed it. This marker is about 10 feet high. I stood for a moment looking up at this marker. I love a good sense of humour even in a cemetery.
We had a great ride back home. A little rain just enough to break the heat and humidity. Riding the Spyder in Texas means that you can get all the weather in one day. We were hot and sweating, cold and wet to return to hot and sweaty and stuck in Dallas traffic.
A few hours in Paris made for an excellent day trip. I am looking forward to returning!
